Not sure if you have read Nick’s weekend trend trader book but it uses a stop loss that tightens depending if the Index is up/down. If you have access to his new ‘Community” you can see it there.

TrentRothallParticipantNice, thats what you want!
TrentRothallParticipantLooks like a few fills overnight Said, almost a full house!
TrentRothallParticipantWednesday 6.4.16
Paper trading is complete! Everything seemed to work how it should with the system, the only issue that arose was when the days low was exactly at my buy limit which caused a partial fill due to not enough shares available at my price. Nick said this happens occasionally.
Will start trading next week when i am back home. **cue market crash**
TrentRothallParticipantYeah ok thanks Nick, i thought that i might have been over thinking things a bit. I am happy with the system so i will just trade it. Thanks
TrentRothallParticipantQuote:For reasons I am unsure of every system I have is pretty awful on ASX.That’s funny because the few systems that i have been playing around with are the opposite, not sure why…
48000+ trades seems like a fair bit! Are there lots of other signals that you don’t take?
also i was thinking, if you are using a higher close for the exit and the system is a breakout type entry. Wouldn’t alot of the entries have a exit signal on the same day? Not sure if that is a bad thing though.
Quote:thanks again for your input TrentNo worries happy to help, i am in no means a coding expert either all my systems are pretty simple but simple seems to work just as well. Time will tell
TrentRothallParticipantAnother possible thing that might help.
I went over alot of my trades to find out what conditions produced the best trades an tightened the parameters to weed out the crap trades. It looks as though you have alot of trades so you might be able to do this. I found i was better off doing less better quality trades in certain periods rather than taking every signal.
TrentRothallParticipantoh ok interesting i was thinking about looking into a system that buys a breakout. Do you buy on the open or have a buy stop order? I hven’t thought about a short term weekly system either really.
You might be able to try 2 consecutive higher closes or something like that?
TrentRothallParticipantHi Scott
I don’t know what exit mechanism you are using, but it mght be worth trying a close above a MA. It might help make the winners a bit larger, but might make DD a bit deeper. Said had a good table with results from different exits which shows the trade off from each
Trent

Thanks
TrentRothallParticipantHi Said
Sorry to be a pain, but i ran into another error. I thought i would test the spread sheet again and this error popped up
i clcked Debug and this was the next screen.
Today’s trade was only 1 buy with no expansions to it, so a single transaction

Me personally I like to see the MRV strategy gave some good results during the years when trend following didn’tYeah ok, that makes sense. So it can pick up the slack when trend following isn’t doing as well i guess
