I am really glad you started this topic. I find the hardest part of trading is staying in the game when your system is flat or in drawdown. Last month I only had a 3 1/2% drawdown in my MOC system which has been flat this month and I am already wondering whether I made a mistake in designing the system, or whether it was broken. I started to look at tweaks in the system. All of this because prior to mentoring I’d always lose money trading.
Most of the mental hurdles to staying with a system I suspect are tied up with what money and its loss mean to your psyche.
LenI have found myself thinking about this in regard to future systems Len….how would I go with a brand new system that went into drawdown straight away and then had its worst year in the 20 year backtest ?…there is no reason a perfectly good system may not do this purely by chance..(1/20 or 5% possibility)..I suspect I would struggle
I’m sort of dealing with this currently, my current DD isn’t the deepest but is the longest in duration of my testing (2000-now) coming up to 12 months.. Is it broken?? I’m not sure, but i’ll hang around to find out. My other system has been fluctuating between 0-3% DD basically all year also.
TrentRothallParticipantThanks Rob,
Did you ever know a guy named James Starling from your trading pit days? huge guy 6″6 120+ kg
TrentRothallParticipantGood work Kevin.
I’ll see you there for a chat!
TrentRothallParticipantCheers Scott, i’ll have a listen and check it out!
TrentRothallParticipantIs anyone else NDU/Amibroker asking them to download certain databases again?
I opened AB this morning and there is no data available, ndu is telling me to download US indices + world indices
TrentRothallParticipantIf you’ve tested the systems using the correct commission costs in AB does it really matter?
For example if your ASX Moc has a 30% CAR on a $100,000 account and you pay $10,000 in comms. They should all be factored into the CAR calculation anyway. Just a cost of doing business.
TrentRothallParticipantMay’s Results
ASX MR1 = -1.16
ASX MR2 = 1.8%
Total = 0.27%
TrentRothallParticipantmine operates like nick, i log into my main tws then i can just flick between my two accounts. I think my second acc is a family and friends account.
TrentRothallParticipantlike Said said it can appeal to crooks because it is hard to track i believe, but organised crime all over the world has billions of USD stashed away and it is obviously a legit currency.
Like it or not, either Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies are here to stay and will be the way of the world soon enough i think.
TrentRothallParticipantIts not about trading in it. It becoming more of a legitimate currency, so you can use it as general money. Although its very volatile currently so not really sure how that will work.
TrentRothallParticipantI’m doing the same Nick
TrentRothallParticipantI found this info on another forum, it’s from Richard Dale from premium data. He states that data from Chi-X isn’t incorporated into the PD datafeed at all. I have observed this from time to time also.
Maybe we should route all our trades via ASX only?
Quote:“Regarding Australian equities and consolidated data – it’s something we’d like to do, but unfortunately Chi-X don’t have any “reference” data that could be used to generate this (at least not at a reasonable price point with multiple backup feeds).Chi-X have a rather interesting model in that all stocks open at 10:00:00.000, so they are often the first trade of the day too – the ASX has their staggered opens, so you’d probably need to think about how that impacts things too.
Another question you have to ask yourself – does it matter? (but that’s hard to quantify without real data). Chi-X is around 20% of the total number of trades these days and probably slightly higher on a volume basis.”
TrentRothallParticipantAgree, also for developing countries who don’t have proper banking systems. All you need is a internet connection and you can have access to the bitcoin system. Money can be transferred anywhere basically instantly without the need for approvals etc
TrentRothallParticipantit showed up in the error logs, hotwinds pointed it out to me. I think you can view some info in the server manager thing
TrentRothallParticipantNick Radge wrote:Well, for the last 3 sessions my VPS dropped out and shut everything down. I told Hostwinds it needed to be rectified or it was a deal breaker. An interesting response from them:Quote:It would appear that your server has had a large number of Failed login attempts, each login attempt will use CPU, RAM and Networking, when too much CPU, RAM, and Networking are used, the server will try to sacrifice other connections to accommodate the new one. When a large number of requests hit a server, whether malicious or not, it may be considered to be a DOS or DDOS brute forcing attack. They may be trying to bring down the server or they may be trying to access the server.
We do offer Windshield, which may help to mitigate the effects of these types of attacks by changing a few RDP Settings.
Do you want us to add Windshield( a 1 Time service for $25.00)? https://www.hostwinds.com/windshield.phpI have no idea what these login attempts would be?
Seems the same thing happened to me Nick, Something attempted 39,000 times to log in over a 14h period… Wow
