Hi Rob,
I’m sorry to hear about your parents. I too have been through this in the last few years with both of my parents as well as an aunt who was like a mother to me…very painful!
I’m part way through making things easier for the kids, but perhaps I could buy your book once it’s finished?
TerryDunneParticipantThanks for your thoughts Kate, I really appreciate it…it seems like you have an interesting family.

For the coming year, I’d like to decide whether to launch weekly swing systems for the ASX and TSE and also to fully document daily processes and the process for closing my positions if I get run over by a truck.
My children have expressed interest in learning what I do, but I’m still trying to decide whether they are actually interested or just like the idea of making $$$ without having to work too hard. If I think there is genuine interest, then I’d also like to provide them with some training. I’m not too confident abut this as I can imagine a whole pile of events and circumstances where it could go pear shaped.
Good luck to everyone for 2023!

TerryDunneParticipantHi Kate,
I believe that you translate each leg of the trade at the FX rate for that day. I do that and I also convert everything else (charges, interest, fees etc) at the rate applicable for the transaction date. There will be a difference between this calculation and the NAV and I call that difference FX gain/(loss).
I hope I understood your question and that this helps.
All the best for 2023!
TerryDunneParticipantHi Nick,
Have you stopped trading your MOC or is it just a coincidence that the return for the month was 0.00%?
All the best for the coming year!
TerryDunneParticipantLen, I use the results of my MCSs to allocate percentages of my portfolio. I use the average Ulcer Performance Index as my measure, but I reckon any number of other choices (e.g. MDD; Sharpe Ratio; CAGR/MDD etc) could be used without there being a lot of difference. I’m also interested in what others are doing in this regard, if people wish to share…
Julian, I guess if you re-optimise over eight years, 2022 will have some, but not too much, effect. It might be time to get on with doing it and see what the results look like compared to now. I don’t plan to re-allocate until the middle of 2023, so at least I have time.
TerryDunneParticipantHi Julian,
I agree with your comments. However, if a system had a losing year and you re-optimise stretch, then the ‘best’ result will be the stretch that has the fewest trades to minimise the loss (i.e. the biggest stretch)?
Am I missing something?

TerryDunneParticipantJulian, my initial thinking was that stocks on the TSX are less likely to be microcaps while stocks on the smaller exchanges are more likely to be microcaps. No real science, just a hypothesis.
TerryDunneParticipantIt looks as if my ‘solution’ isn’t.
I now have a query in to Norgate as I haven’t been able to exclude microcaps.
TerryDunneParticipantNext, you need to amend your Watchlist Library to exclude everything but TSX. Under ‘Listing Exchange’, unclick all exchanges but TSX.
For the version for back testing, temporarily untick ‘Delisted’ and the same list of exchanges will come up. Again untick all exchanges but TSX and then retick ‘Delisted’.
Good news – I’ve just finished rerunning MCSs with the amended Watchlist and it made only a minor difference to the overall results.
Happy days!
TerryDunneParticipantSo, I’ve dealt with this tonight. This just means that when you set up your IB account you didn’t include Canada in the list of locations you wished to trade.
Login to the IB website. From the main menu
Manage Account
Trade Configuration
PermissionsThis will take you to a new window where you just need to tick the box next to Canada under North America.
My permission was granted immediately although they do have a standard message that it might take 1-2 business days.
TerryDunneParticipantOne of my criteria before I can take a system live is that it has two meet the minimum benchmarks on both the R1000 and R2000 with identical everything. I wouldn’t run a system on the R1000 without being prepared to run it on the R2000, and vice versa.
Have you actually developed two new systems by using a new ranking? I guess you’d want to check how many trades duplicate…
TerryDunneParticipantKate, was it clear to you why some MOC orders were allowed and others not?
