Just thought I’d bump this to gauge interest now that lockdown is over…
TerryDunneParticipantTerryDunneParticipantUmm…they are losses

Ouch!
On a positive note, I have built another pair of MOC systems that are my most pleasing yet. They are simplified variations of an earlier system, with fewer variables/conditions – I can’t wait to start trading them, likely from the beginning of 2022.
I now have 10 MOC systems (5 x R1000 and 5 x R2000) and there must be a limit. It might be time to introduce the same rule that I encourage my wife to use on her clothing – if an item is added, something has to be removed.
I hope December is a better month for everyone!
Terry
TerryDunneParticipantThat really sucks.
TerryDunneParticipantWow Nick, 8.1% on HFT!!!
That’s Mean reversion, right? That’s a really good result.
TerryDunneParticipantAgree mate. At least people with longer term systems are getting some bang for their buck.
Thanks for the enquiry after my health. Me next big step is to see a spinal surgeon…whenever I think of surgeons, I’m reminded of that saying if the only thing your tool box is a hammer, everything looks like a nail
TerryDunneParticipantHi Scott,
I’m now happily opioid free

Another quiet month, although satisfactory in the circumstances, I guess (?).
MOC 1000 4.43%
MOC 2000 1.91%
MR 2000 (1.29%)Total 1.95%
My annual benchmark is 20%, so while this looks like a ‘blah’ month, 12 x this month’s return would meet my benchmark.
I have officially given up on longer term systems and have tipped the money I had set aside for these types into my short term systems, so now I’m finally fully invested after 20 months I will keep looking for longer term approaches but just won’t be waiting for them to turn up.
Good luck to everyone for November!
Terry
TerryDunneParticipantThanks Chris!
TerryDunneParticipantOh in terms of my health, I’m popping Endone like they’re smarties, but things are starting to improve, thanks for your kind thoughts.
TerryDunneParticipantThanks for the feedback everyone.
Playing with trading ideas is so much fun, even the ones that don’t work. But that that’s not the same as running a business…I’m reminded of the suburban restaurant that opens and serves great food but goes out of business after about a year, it seems to happen all the time.
This feels like the right time to switch my attention to the running of a trading business rather than spending my time on trading ideas.
TerryDunneParticipantYes, it was a shocking experience.
I’m thinking of setting up a second company and going through the whole account opening process again. I don’t have any long term systems right now, so need the API.
TerryDunneParticipantThanks for the replies gents, both of which are entirely reasonable and make good sense.
Julian I think you’re right that the exercise only involves someone hitting the ‘close all positions’ function…still that might be too much to ask of my family, especially if they’re sickened with grief/partying with my trading funds. However, I do have someone I trust enough that I know he wouldn’t let me down, one of those people we have in our lives that we would trust with our lives/wives/trading portfolio…I will discuss it with him.
At the moment I only use IB and my understanding is that I’m protected up to $500k? Is that AUD or USD? Are people carrying the risk on any excess? Or have they kept their individual broker exposure under the protected amount? Obviously having more brokers creates more admin, but I guess admin is what you spend your time doing in a successful business, once you’ve developed your product and sales.
I’d really appreciate any and all thoughts, so thanks in advance.

The wheels came off a bit in the last few days of the month, which is a little unfortunate but no big deal.
Still creating and testing systems that don’t meet my benchmarks. I need to decide to either lower my standards or not bother (and allocate my unused capital to the systems I’m happy with).
Good luck to everyone for the coming month.
