ScottMcNabParticipant
just found this in API log
Error Code: 201 Error Message: Order rejected – reason:Because of Australian regulatory restrictions, this account is restricted from creating or increasing a margin loan (the borrowing of cash against securities as collateral).
Bit strange as loads of cash sitting in acct spare ??
ScottMcNabParticipantXTO rotational 1995-present
ScottMcNabParticipantover the years I have changed systems like underpants Mike….part of beginners cycle…the actual code for this rotational system hasn’t changed much since developed it a few years ago though so maybe that’s something…traded it on RUI and XAO…cant even remember if used it on XTO before…
…. it takes 5 positions and will hold as long as remains in the top 10…..uses pretty simple index filter too…did go through a phase about 12 months ago of trying to be more inventive with index filters but have become uncomfortable with such a small sample size (may only trigger 10 times in entire backtest ) having such a large impact…so back to very simple filter..
did an old post where also tested it on multiple other markets but no historical constituents on that data set
results solid without setting world on fireScottMcNabParticipantJuly 2019
XTO Rotn -0.77%
MRV only traded part month as closed for IB to transfer to IB Aust and no longer margin
MRV RUI 1.42%
MRV XAO -0.16%ScottMcNabParticipantThanks Nick. Cant beat industry knowledge. I will stay away from them
ScottMcNabParticipantAnyone using/tried SelfWealth ?
ScottMcNabParticipantFinally got around to checking the results of competition I ran against my daughters from 1Jan to 30Jun
the picks in their portfolio were:
MCD, AMZN, AAPL and SPOT…..returns of 22%, 32%, 44% and 33%
$100 poorer and egg on my faceScottMcNabParticipantThe best “hedge” (used loosely) I have found so far Dustin is to diversify across systems and across markets. More specifically the daily MRV systems often have maxDD at different time to rotation systems. I do not have any systems that short and do not use options. Others may have coded strategies that short index ETFs perhaps ?
ScottMcNabParticipantHard to make much with that trade frequency but always interesting to see if any ideas can test for own systems rather than looking specifically at their systems
ScottMcNabParticipantAgree with Michael’s summary. Initial thought was yes but is in essence are principles for us to then apply as we see fit. I wonder how their “hair splitters” would look at something like the changes to a line of code in a system submitted for review ? What a headache
ScottMcNabParticipantTo be confident will get fill with buy limit order probably place it 4-5% above previous close too ? My XTO rotn system is done at 5×19% (started it again this month…apologies to others for impending crash in XTO)…..with buy limit of course as asx
July 2, 2019 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Migration to IB Australia Pty Ltd: Margin Restrictions for Retail Accounts #110195ScottMcNabParticipantThanks Glen. Will give it a go. Just tested XAO MRV on 10×10 and seems ok so will keep that going too I think.
July 2, 2019 at 9:43 pm in reply to: Migration to IB Australia Pty Ltd: Margin Restrictions for Retail Accounts #109336ScottMcNabParticipantGot marching orders issued today too…10 days to make it all happen and I head overseas in 3 days of course…
unfortunately my corporate entity will not satisfy wholesale or professional requirements….guess will bin the XAO MRV and use MRV on RUI only with 5 positions at 20%
ScottMcNabParticipantCongrats Trent. Great result
ScottMcNabParticipantJune 2019
MRV RUI 0.5%
MRV XAO -0.4% -
