MR_HFT: +4.1%TimothyStricklandMemberYep. happened several times over the last few days. The explore tells me to sometimes get out of trades I never took. However, when I run the backtest, it has always matched the trades that I actually got into and out of so I am pretty happy with that.
I got to admit I am a little nervous about getting back in with my momentum systems after this monster rally over 2 months. My gut tells me the market will reverse here shortly. However, listening to my gut in the past has cost me a lot of money so I’ll do what the system tells me to do.
TimothyStricklandMemberI am likely going to post weekly updates for awhile since I just took all of my systems live and in the markets that way I can get help diagnosing any issues if they occur in my systems. This is my first time taking my systems live that haven’t been Nick’s.
So far my MR system has had an amazing week. I did notice one stock showed up in my exploration as though I had bought it but it didn’t actually trigger in IB. I will look into this a little more this weekend and see if I can get to the bottom of it. Hopefully I fat fingered the price. I am keying in the limit orders manually after running the explore.
TimothyStricklandMemberAfter October 2018 though, I’m not so sure I believe what I just said 100% now. Just because something hasn’t happened before doesn’t mean it never will.
TimothyStricklandMemberI have taken a similar approach in the past. However, I am under the impression that if we are splitting our cash over multiple different systems, the risk of leverage diminishes some does it not? I guess I am assuming that it would be very rare for all my systems, short term and long term would go into a stiff drawdown all at the same time. Maybe this is a wrong assumption? The backtests I have run over my systems shows that they rarely, actually never have had huge drawdowns at the exact same time.
This is a good question and would also like to hear others opinions and Nick’s recommendations.
TimothyStricklandMemberThat’s what I was thinking, run my momentum systems in the higher cost broker and do short term systems through IB or Tradestation. Thanks for the help.
TimothyStricklandMemberOne more question. You mentioned you went with TD Ameritrade to split broker risk, has that worked out well? I am looking to do the same. My goal is to split my capital between 4 brokers in the end. 2 running momentum systems and 2 running short term systems.
TimothyStricklandMemberJulian, I extended my time for the mentor course so I can learn the remaining systems. I think I still need to learn a trending and MOC system.
Do you find that MOC systems outperform your others from a CAGR standpoint? Is this because of the 4x leverage you get during the day? I am starting down this path although I really need to wait until Craig is feeling better as I will have lots of coding issues.
TimothyStricklandMemberran into some issues with my exploration on my MR system, realized it was another Amibroker setting (sigh). System is now live though. In the process of splitting my broker risk. Right now everything is in Interactive Brokers, I will move some capital I think to Tradestation and possibly TD ameritrade (momentum system).
TimothyStricklandMemberAwesome Mike! Those are some realistic goals. You will be able to get better than that I feel once you know and practice making systems.
I agree you should focus on one thing and one thing only. I know guys who have built a ton of systems but they break in a few months and then have to make a new one. Be an expert on your one system. Remember you only need one good one.
Don’t rush the process. I have been with Nick for over 2 years now, I followed his systems for a year and then I signed up for the mentor course. It is my 1 year anniversary of the mentor course and I had no idea I would be so confident in my trading abilities than I am now.
TimothyStricklandMemberYikes, just had something similar happen, although not quite as drastic. My system was giving some pretty amazing results. 44% CAGR over my test period with 16-17% drawdown. Turned out there were settings in amibroker that were not correct and I had fallen into the trap of optimizing to many things. Thankfully Nick caught it before I went live.
TimothyStricklandMemberAs of today I will be taking both my momo and MR systems live, all systems will be live now in the markets.
TimothyStricklandMemberJulian,
Do you split your capital equally between the systems or do you allocate more to certain ones? Reason why I am asking as I may be going down a similar path as you in the future. I have my momentum systems and Nick and I are working on the MR system now. I would like to create a MOC system in the future and split capital and brokers to mitigate risk.
TimothyStricklandMemberSystem didn’t change, Nick reviewed it and I am doing some rolling windows testing now to get a feel for the system performance month to month. Will be taking this system live very soon.
TimothyStricklandMemberInteresting. I may do some testing with ETF’s at some point, I have not gotten into it that much.
