This is the email that was sent to ASX Momentum (only) members:

As you’re probably aware the ASX Momentum strategy is currently in a drawdown (a decline in equity).

This is completely normal and well within the realms of what is expected.

Our extensive testing, going back to 1995 and covering many market events, suggests the 5 worst drawdowns have been:

    -26.7%
    -25.2%
    -23.7%
    -19.5% (current)
    -18.9%

Every investment strategy sustains some type of drawdown. Buy and Hold regularly has 50% drawdowns, some double what we’d expect with this strategy.

The ASX Momentum strategy has shown itself to fully recover from drawdowns in 12 – 14 months*.

Indeed, Trish and I just increased our allocation to the strategy by 25%. The logic is simple. Our rigorous testing shows the strategy always recovers*, and that, for the most part, the worst of this drawdown is over.

Drawdowns are not comfortable. But they are part-and-parcel of the journey to successful investing.

I’m here to answer any questions you may have.

So ASIC actually does some things that are useful then Nick

    Rarely…

The biggest insider trading case in Australia. ASIC only found out after two brokers reported to them.

ASIC put a single investigator on it.

They then realised that they needed higher powers so called in the Federal Police.

The Feds put 80 investigators on it and eventually busted them.

    Nothing like being committed…

Just to put it out there, since MF Global, ASIC has made it a requirement that any international companies operating in Australia must now need to be (a) an Australian company, and (b) hold an AFSL.

So opening an account with IB is actually IB Australia now and not IB LLC USA as was the case with MF Global.

    That said, trust nobody…

My ASX Momo strategy having a drawdown so I’m topping up the allocation by 25%.

The average drawdown over the last 20-yrs is -19% and the last 10-yrs is -16.7%.

    We’re currently at -13.5%.

    Hi Rob,
Rather than use DropBox, you should be able to simply cut and paste the upload from the PC to VPS.

I have several SelfWealth accounts and never have an issue.

As Julian says, place the order 3%-5% above yesterdays closing price and ensure it’s done that way before the market actually opens.
