-1.00%My ASX index filter is quite tight and it hit in the right spot last month so I got out of a bunch of stocks that took a beating.
I’m still teetering very close to my initial equity investment and can’t help but to want to create a buffer so I’m ready for the next drawdown but accept that I may have many drawdowns ahead that don’t care about my thoughts.

MichaelRodwellMemberThanks Nick. I have dropped you an email.
MichaelRodwellMemberLifestyle is definitely a factor. I have two young kids and pre-covid I would travel for work quite a lot so thats why I started with longer term systems.
I also recognise that I’m a bit more of a bigger picture guy and not so good with details. I think with the trade volume of the shorter term systems I would need to make a big effort to get more organised, structured and make sure Im always on top of things. Trading 5 times a month as I currently do, is no big deal in this regard.
When I started I thought I would start with long term and gradually work my way down to day trade systems as time and money becomes available. I’m not sure now…
MichaelRodwellMemberHey Glenn,
What did the damage on your ASX100 system?
I feel like I’ve dodged a bullet (for once!).
Cheers
MichaelRodwellMemberI think I have come to the position that Im happy trading the longer term systems and at the moment will no push myself on the shorter term ones. My thinking on this will probably develop over time but its interesting that Im almost the complete opposite of you.

A pleasing month, very happy with how things are going.
It feels a little ‘insufficient’ running only very short term systems. But I’m not going to trade longer term systems until I’m happy with their metrics. The question I need to answer is whether my goal metrics are too aspirational, whether the systems I’m running are just better than anything I’m likely to achieve longer term, so I’m looking for something that doesn’t exist.
But aren’t we all
Best wishes to all for the month ahead!
MichaelRodwellMemberYep. I’m grateful for the beating I have taken. I know that means I am one less beating closer to winning!
For context… out of 29 months of trading, I have spent 7 with my head above water.
The total return for my NDX system in 29 months is approx 3%.
But it all checks out and is explainable. So after such drawn out drawdown (below my initial capital) I feel at peace and can just get on a trade.
I guess winning would feel better though

+1.53%Pushed the buttons and got out of the way this month. A few times I found my self comparing (mainly when I read Nick’s TLT email updates) as I am lagging on both my systems and the broader markets.
With the market feeling quite hot I have had some concerns that I will be destroyed by another sharp sell off – ah well. Let it be.

#PushingButtonsMichaelRodwellMemberI included the dot.com bust to see how my systems would handle such an event.
MichaelRodwellMemberDesign a system focusing only on the return and not paying attention to the risks.
Dont worry about your lifestyle when designing a system, you’ll find a way to fit your life around your trading.

Thanks Nick!
MichaelRodwellMemberHey Kate,
Drop Neil an email: [email protected]
I think he’s one of Nick’s contacts (can’t quite remember) but he’s local and very helpful – deals with new accounts etc. He got me got me set up and there was some final steps to do with central support/ accounts to make it work.

MichaelRodwellMemberCool… I think that makes sense to me. I have been using the performance tables in the same way.
So, if you were tracking my example, would you use a separate STT for each tranche treating them as a unique system?
MichaelRodwellMemberThanks Glen – are you using STT to manage positions in each portfolio?

+1.62%More #PushingButtons and more waiting. I feel a little bit envious of those with NDX systems smashing it out of the park this month but also grateful to be making some money with minimal effort and stress.
Towards the end of the month a few of my NDX positions took at decent hit which eroded a fair amount of open profits. $MRNA was the saviour keeping me in the black.
Happy enough with the ASX system which continues to dig out of the drawdown. $ILU.ax a big help!
The most important thing I have noticed over the past few months is I am gaining good separation from the markets and the money in them. From time to time I find myself hoping or wanting for greater profits but this is really dissipating as I focus on just running the systems and getting on with life.
May be next month I will be on the winners board.

MichaelRodwellMemberI’ve moved from misery to despair. Now I just push the buttons as I should.
