KateMoloneyParticipant
Nice work Terry !
KateMoloneyParticipantJan 2022 Update
ASX Momo -9.18%
Growth Port -0.26%US Momo +0.69%
TLT -19.91%
MOC Day Trade Strategies
The Buffet +31.67%
White Pocket +41.90%Had two outstanding nights on the MOC in January, earning 13.19% & 32.39% (White Pocket), 13.61% & 34.63% (The Buffett) over night. I was expecting this to happen one day, but not so early on in the trading journey. Very grateful !! and it certainly helped to offset the losses in the trend following / momo strategies.
The biggest night, 24th of Jan, there were so many wonderful lessons about trusting the system no matter what. Had I listened to my greed and cashed in early, I would have missed out on another 13% of profit.
I’m really enjoying the day trade strategies and started creating a third system yesterday.
Thank you so much to both Craig and Nick for your assistance – I could not have done this without you.
Trading for me has been so much more than just systems and profits. It has become a way of life. I have a purpose that I love immensely (who would have thought coding and spreadsheets could be so inspiring?!). Every morning I look forward to waking up and checking the MOC strategies – win or loss – there is always something new to learn, something new to learn about myself.
I am very grateful that I found the chartist so early on in my technical trading journey. The process is simple, it makes sense and if you do the work you will get the results. I am mindful that I got lucky by starting “at the right time” but I also know that if I do this game long enough, I will continue to get “lucky” through persistence.
KateMoloneyParticipantThe market has ben very unkind to long term momentum systems / trend following systems.
This is a graph of our ASX momentum portfolio. It has struggled to maintain profitability and is currently below breakeven again.
Makes me grateful for having multiple systems, some of which are sitting in cash right now.
KateMoloneyParticipantThanks Nick.
After some digging I cannot find the MOC orders for short sales.
I’ve taken the data from the time when IB sold the positions and the numbers balance when I use that data.
Its odd, IB haven’t been much help.
Equity was only short by $230 which caused IB to sell those shares, so I’ve just topped up the account with cash in case this happens again.
Always learning something new.
KateMoloneyParticipantThank you Nick & Trent.
Hey Nick, when the API gets updated do we purchase a new licence to get those updates?
KateMoloneyParticipantI closed out those positions this morning by buying back the shares eg QCom -5 balance, bought 5 shares at market.
The balance of the shares is back to 0.Just want to understand why this happened and if I did the right thing by closing out the positions.
Made money from those negative positions last night. Not sure how, unless it was a short position?
KateMoloneyParticipantTrent, the roller coaster is insane. The $$ amount we gained last night has pretty much covered the losses from the long term trend following / momentum systems. I’m grateful for the gain, but the compounded equity curve is still at the flat beginning stage
KateMoloneyParticipantThat’s great, Tim. Master your emotions, master your life.
I’ve been working with ‘Demartini method’ facilitators since 2012. Life changing work, not just in trading but life (eg family relationships, health).
I’m a big believer that “we don’t see the world as it is – we see the world as we are”
KateMoloneyParticipantJust logging here how I feel mentally because trading is 80% mental.
Might sound a bit boring, but I feel pretty ‘meh’ about the gain…. grateful, but meh. It is just a number at the end of the day and there are days that make or lose 30% over night. If I want to take the wins, I also have to be prepared for potential 30% loss days (they are rare, but they do happen).
Went for a walk before coming back to do daily P&L and back test.
If too much infatuation sets in with the wins, I’ll make a list of the drawbacks to balance that perception of infatuation out. Infatuation blinds you as a trader.
Got a session with my mindset coach this morning. Been working with her since December on money specifically. One of our sessions was about being able to mentally handle large trading wins … didn’t expect it to manifest so soon ….
KateMoloneyParticipantDay trade account up 29.2% last night
Lucky I did not sell out at 18% like I initially wanted to. My systems know better than me.
KateMoloneyParticipantUpdate
Last week has been unkind to all systems. I’ve had moments, but just stuck to the system (because I’m blonde, what do I know …)
The day trade systems had 6 losing sessions in a row, taking 2-4% each time.
Trade long term portfolio went 50% cash last night, my plan is to shift those funds into IB so I don’t have margin issues in the future. So I log in to IB this morning to initiate this and the account is up 18% over night (with an hour to market close) and of course there has been a margin call and I’ve been sold out of 8 profitable positions …. the timing of it all! … live and learn ….
KateMoloneyParticipantOuch
KateMoloneyParticipantThanks Nick.
KateMoloneyParticipantLogically it seems 2/3 years would make sense for the MOC systems.
KateMoloneyParticipantYes
I’m still figuring out my rhythm for checking system health.
Isn’t it every 6 or 12 months that we should be reviewing them?
Thanks for your input with the time frames. I did more optimization tests last night and it doesn’t seem to make much difference whether its 2/3 years or 4/5 years.
