It takes me about 5 seconds to connect to the VPS then about 3 secs to copy paste a file across.
Living in SA and with our statewide blackouts i got tier 1 a few weeks ago, its fine for me i have AB, tws, pdu all works perfectly. Minimal delay and about the same as Nick to copy files, not that i need to though.

good timing on getting the vps trent… was wondering how the blackout affected you.
September 29, 2016 at 2:38 am #105365TrentRothallParticipantWe were out for about 12hrs, i think some places might be a few days. It didn’t affect my trading at all, i am on the asx so all good.

What I have been doing is opening Batchtrader on the VPS and then importing the data from my local computer. That is what is taking the time as it finds the local file structure etc…
I didn’t think to copy the file across and then import from the VPS. I’ll try that tonight and see how it goesOctober 7, 2016 at 10:06 pm #105137JulianCohenParticipantNick I need a favour please. I had a VPS shutdown last night the same as you used to have…Friday night to Saturday morning and reverting back to US time zone. Do you have the ticket number where Hostwinds finally fixed this so I can point them in the right direction. They last time they “fixed” this for me they obviously didn’t
October 7, 2016 at 11:58 pm #105469Nick RadgeKeymasterSame thing originally here – they said they’d fixed it then it happened again. Hasn’t happened since.
Ticket ID: 838387

Thanks Nick. I’ll let you know how it goes. One way or the other I won’t use it on a Friday night for a while until I’m sure. Amazingly it left me long on a position that is in profit. Not telling them that though ha ha
October 17, 2016 at 6:57 am #105476JulianCohenParticipantJust logged into Hostwinds and I’ve had another reboot and time has reverted to US again.
Whether they fix it or not I will be moving to Speedy and giving them a try. It’s too dangerous like this…

Another option is to set TWS to Seattle time Julian (assuming that is where your VPS is too). I’ve had no problems since I did this.
October 17, 2016 at 9:25 am #105556ScottMcNabParticipantThinking back, I think Hostwind Support recommended Seattle based on windows default time following an update rather than location of server
October 18, 2016 at 7:43 am #105557JulianCohenParticipantWell I’m getting good at setting up VPS now. I have both Speedy and Hostwinds running and I will monitor both to see what happens.
After Hostwinds finally believed me that there was something wrong, they spent a few hours on it yesterday. They sent me this today:
“This should now be corrected permanently, the time server was set to manual startup for some reason, and this is now corrected and it is showing the correct time for AUS Eastern. We were not able to discern anymore about the crashes, if tied to the time server it would now be resolved. Let us know should there still be issues with stability.”
It actually wasn’t showing the correct time when I looked at it as it was set to Vladivostok but they are all Seppos so they probably thought it was somewhere in Australia
Anyway I’m running both in the background for a week or so and then we’ll see
October 19, 2016 at 4:29 am #105579JulianCohenParticipantI binned Hostwinds today. They spent all yesterday fixing it and when I logged in today it was back to the wrong time again. When I told one of the techies that I had set up with another company and that was working fine, he asked me to copy the settings from that machine so they could use it to fix theirs. He didn’t think there was anything wrong with this request even though I gave him ample opportunity to retract it by telling him that on written chat it is easy to be misunderstood.
I’ll keep you all appraised of how things go with Speedy.
Anyone think I have a natural ability to break computers?
November 2, 2016 at 8:13 am #105138JulianCohenParticipantA couple of weeks with Speedy and all flawless so far.
I’m sure I was just unlucky with Hostwinds; they refunded me for the month and apologised for not being able to fix the problem.
November 3, 2016 at 4:52 pm #105676LEONARDZIRParticipantJulian a slightly different perspective on hostwinds. The motherboard went kaput on my new trading computer. Luckily I had backed up all my mentor work and trading systems on the amibroker on the vps(also all my systems on Hotmail) continue to trade on the vps without a hitch.
