I’m just in the process of doing the time settings and I’ve reached a descision point. Any computer that is running TWS has to have the identical time zone or one is going to have this problem. So my home laptop will have to be set to US Eastern time unless I can get the VPS to keep to the Australian time zone.

Looks like I sorted the issue with TWS shutting down. I hadn’t saved setting on server which is a selection on TWS startup.

I have also decided to upgrade my VPS to the Tier 4 level which is 2 Core, 4.5GB and 400mbps. Tier 2 was just excruciatingly slow – a 15 sec lag between mouse click and action.

Hopefully this upgrade will speed it up considerably.

is anyone else that is using hostwinds having the same problem? im just about to sign up… almost…

No.

Web browsing apparently is a little more riskier so best to use a VPN if you wanted to but I’m told a VPS is not really designed for web browsing.

Using SSD windows level 2…$21.50 usd a month…server 2012 …located in Dallas…lags seems minimal…max of 1 sec unless copying large files over or batchtrader is loading a head of orders into tws

Just logged on to VPS, cancelled existing orders and uploaded new orders to BatchTrader for ASX using iphone and worked smoothly.

I had an issue copying / pasting excel over to the VPS…guessing this has something to do with a license key. I downloaded OpenOffice (free version of excel/word/etc). With AmiBroker, Premium Data, TWS, and OpenOffice, I am now able to perform my entire work flow remotely through the VPS.

I used Libre Office which is also free. Works a treat and I can seamlessly copy from my Laptop and paste in VPS if I need.

I set up the Gateway yesterday and another account on IB so I can access TWS at the same time as Gateway is open. I’m finding the VPS is slow when saving files between the remote computer and my laptop. I haven’t set up Amibroker on the VPS, so now the only time the VPS is accessing the laptop files is when I upload to Batchtrader.

Tier 4. I upsized after talking to you.

By slow I mean it might take fifteen seconds to connect through to the file structure on the local machine. Am I expecting too much

Not quite sure if I’m understanding.

It takes me about 5 seconds to connect to the VPS then about 3 secs to copy paste a file across.
