That list looks incorrect – it say’s Margin On Exceptional Securities, not regular securities
May 26, 2016 at 12:50 am #104081TrentRothallParticipantScott McNab wrote:Ouch! Quite a list…but how will you know whether it harms the system a little or a lot otherwise ? Are US mkts a possibility or do they have the same restrictions on certain stocks ?US markets don’t have the same issues i believe, if i change my exit the system works well in the US too so that’s an option. Ignore that list it’s incorrect. Even if i run my system with only 10 positions it still has good returns that i would probably trade anyway. I also have ran the trade skipping MCS with high skip % say 30% and it hurts the system but it is still good i believe. Tested with 12,13,15 max positions. I think i will just reassess after x months to see how many i am missing and what effect it’s having. In the mean time my system still has a good positive expectancy so should be all good.
Thanks for that Nick

I wonder if it is worth an email to premium data (assuming your using them) to see if they have any ideas about coding a solution to this?
May 26, 2016 at 11:14 am #102696TrentRothallParticipantThat list isn’t right, will have another look. It might be worth a try though if i can get one.
May 26, 2016 at 9:06 pm #102697Nick RadgeKeymasterIt can’t be coded for a few reasons:
(1) Every broker has a different LVR
(2) The LVR levels change
(3) You’d need to code it all in individually for each symbolRemember that this game is NOT an exact science. These small things will pop up from time to time and so long as they’re not detrimental to the longevity of the system then you should (a) make a note of it, and (b) move on
You’ll be better off doing some trading rather than mucking around with peripheral stuff like this.

June 6, 2016 at 7:47 am #102700TrentRothallParticipantWas a good day today, my system added about 1.5% with 3 exits tomorrow and 8 pending entries. Will leave 2 open
I am tempted to buy a position in IFN if it decides to break higher after a little rest, but I think I will leave my cash in reserve in case I need a full portfolio in my system… Might regret it though…..
June 14, 2016 at 7:54 am #104136TrentRothallParticipant7 fills today and 60 orders tomorrow. 10 open positions. A big few days with relation to the number of historical orders/ fills for the system, usually pretty calm
A big sell off today, will have to decide what to do over the brexit in the coming days. what are others thinking? just trade over it?
June 14, 2016 at 11:46 am #104336JulianCohenParticipantHow did your system do in 2008? Granted I doubt if you would have actually traded when the S&P was moving 10% a day up and then down, but I’m sure your system survived it.

The times that hurt it is a period on consecutive sell offs such as late 2014, same as most systems probably

You need to learn to ignore the noise and bollocks going around. Run the system, place the orders and let the cards fall where they may…

I discovered that some stocks are not available to buy while using leverage which i was unaware of. I am using 20 positions at 10% of my account so the first 10 positions are not an issue it is just taking the next 10 positions. Luckily this issue wont ruin my system, but it might hurt a bit.Not sure if this was a once off, but i have 12 open now so using leverage and i had 60 orders in the market that didn’t get cancelled like they did last time…just have to see what happens.
only 1 entry today with 60 orders, thought i would get a few more fills!

June 15, 2016 at 2:30 pm #102702LeeDanelloParticipantI’m assuming you’re using the API. IF you have 5 slots available in your portfolio and you have 50 pending orders. Do they get filled on a 1st in basis or alphabetically?
On a down day like today you’d expect most if not all to be filled. Do you set limits on your practice portfolio equity from the start. I know the notional starting equity for the IB practice portfolio is $1M. Just curious of the machinations. -
