Been listening to a few recent episodes. I like this one as it has Jerry Parker from Chesapeake on it and he drops a few gems on occasion.

Interestingly he trades single stocks, but only 35 names. He seems to choose them based on their correlation to the $SPX, specifically he wants lowly correlated names (as far as I can tell).

Something I’d never do…cherry pick names although ‘cherry pick’ is probably a harsh assessment and I’m sure he has some scientific rigor in the selection process.

I get the feeling Jerry is struggling in the last few years. His investors must be pretty pissed off hearing the same replies that you have to stick with the system. One year, two years yes but look at his track record. Looking a bit thin in the last few years

Yeah, one point I’d make is that these guys are living in a bit of a bubble.

If you listen carefully Niels says he;s never even considered a stock’s only trend following system and never seen any evidence of them even existing…whaaaaa??

Also I listened to a podcast with Richard Dennis and when he was asked if he would think of doing a Turtle System again now, he said he wouldn’t because he wouldn’t have any idea of a system to use.

So he is saying that his old system wouldn’t work….unless he did some serious work at improving it.

In the latest episode they debate stocks only trend following and say they will try get Nick on to discuss.

They know it’s a thing.

They probably know it can work.

Yes. That’s why I’m in Sydney next week – Moritz is in town and asked if I could come see him.

Yeah, I’m not sure. Jerry seems very opinionated on it. Seems to think it’s reckless to have that ‘crash’ exposure. ANd I think that’s odd – considering Dunn has had a drawdown of 60% supposedly being a diversified trend following system that is diversified to avoid those events…I think Chesapeake’s maxDD is 32% or so…

So….are you going to mention Dunn’s drawdown?

Why not? More so if they start talking about being invested in a highly correlated market.
