Had a brief scare this morning. I incorrectly thought I would have to shut down my MR system because it dropped below the pattern day trading mark (currently in a 29.5% Drawdown) but since it holds for several days (I realized later) I am still fine.

August 20, 2019 at 10:38 pm #110308TimothyStricklandMemberJust curious if Others MRV systems are not getting signals lately?
Mine hasn’t gotten very many and the end of last week and this week I got 0. I think it is because a couple days there, the market went straight up.
August 21, 2019 at 8:16 am #110310ScottMcNabParticipantvery slow..half a dozen new positions in Aug
August 21, 2019 at 10:34 pm #110312MichaelRodwellMemberInteresting to see this. I had assumed the MRV systems would be loading up on the recent price action.
August 22, 2019 at 1:11 pm #110313TimothyStricklandMemberI had to investigate because it seemed odd in the current environment. Come to find out it looks like my PC somehow was not synced with the right time. I found this out because browser certs were also not working on certain sites. Bah = P
August 30, 2019 at 10:09 pm #110315TimothyStricklandMemberMR HFT: -3.7% (25.3% DD)
NDX Aggressive: -5.5% (14.42% DD)
ROR: -9.7% (25% DD)
SPX Momo: -1.8% (14.4% DD)
Opening Range: +10.1%The slaughter continues but it can all be explained so I don’t think its a big deal. Biggest chunk of the drawdown still comes from last years October drop which all systems got out of and the market promptly rallied. Some systems are struggling more than others to recover, namely my MR HFT system. Even the SPX Momo which is super conservative is still struggling to regain with all the tradewar rhetoric that continues to shake the market. Not worried, pressing on, next 1000 trades.
On other fronts I got a 20% raise at work as I received an offer from another company and the company I currently work for countered it so I am staying. Completed another large real estate deal which netted us 30% profit already and is cashflowing for at least the next 10 years.
My Discretionary system keeps producing profits, the amount is much smaller than my other systems but it is growing at a very nice pace.
On the psychology front I finally just separated myself from the money, Nick reviewed both the MR HFT and the NDX aggressive and gave his stamp of approval. I realized that if I am questioning my system I am really questioning Nick and Craig’s expertise as well as the process which I do not want to do. Hopefully this is growth into a better psychological mindset with my trading as well as other areas. I really appreciate all the knowledge I have gained learning from Nick and Craig and everyone else here in the forums and hope to continue!
August 30, 2019 at 10:24 pm #110322MichaelRodwellMemberNice work on the opening range Tim – is that your discretionary play?
Will be interesting to watch your other systems and see them dig their way out.
August 30, 2019 at 10:32 pm #110323TimothyStricklandMemberYea, its the 1 minute Futures discretionary system. very small budget but chugging along nicely. its a scalping strategy so the edge is the large amount of trades it takes to produce a positive expectancy.
September 18, 2019 at 12:35 am #110324TimothyStricklandMemberFirst monster day in awhile. It was nice to see all my systems knocking it out of the park, my MRV in particular really shined. Nice to not be beaten into the ground for a change = P. Being realistic it could change tomorrow, I just put my trades and walk away.
September 18, 2019 at 2:03 am #110406AnonymousInactiveSo the big question is “why so”? Was there any condition or move or unique circumstances that caused the great daily result? When I look at the markets for the day I cannot see anything overwhelmingly obvious/different to the usual.
If anything I would say it was a low/limited range day without too much to write home about.
Not raining on your parade, just interested to know what makes things work and what doesn’t?
September 18, 2019 at 4:18 am #110407JulianCohenParticipantI had a nice MOC result but basically it’s because the market opened lower than its close and climbed all day, closing near the high, which is all I ask for just before I go to sleep at night
September 18, 2019 at 4:42 am #110410AnonymousInactiveJulian, are you using a buy limit order for your positions? If yes, it must be a pretty tight setting for the stretch because yes the open was lower than the previous close, but not by much. That would tell me on other days when the open is quite different from the close this would mean your system is giving you plenty of fills on those other days compared to just yesterday?
September 18, 2019 at 7:53 am #110412JulianCohenParticipantWell my stretch is at 0.75 ATR which is not small….I think I was just lucky TBH. Luck does have a lot to do with it
September 18, 2019 at 1:12 pm #110414TimothyStricklandMemberSimilar to what Julian just said except my stretch is 0.4 ATR which is a little tighter than Julian’s but still not tiny. Typically on a day like yesterday I would not have been filled on many of my stocks but I got a fill on all of them and then of course the big rally towards the end of the day. a couple of the big winners actually got filled the day prior.
For instance, my system got into ORLY about half way ish of the big red candle of the previous day and then of course yesterday’s candle.
