I reckon you’re spot on, and it’s a good reminder thank you.

Ugh.
I’ve changed my regime filter – this was the first month using the new one – so I trade much more. That meant that I traded on one really bad day for my MOCs, which would have been avoided if I had still been using the old regime filter. The back tests support the change, with significant improvement in ROR and a slightly lower MDD, but I’m not sure it’s right for me.
I’m concerned in particular about the impact of slippage given the back test trades 40% more…time to compare back tests for the month with actuals.
I hope everyone else got through the month OK.

A very weird month for me – gentle up trend in the overall market, but my shorts had their best month ever and my Russell 2000 MOCs had their worst month ever. Feels like opposite land. I do recall reading someone who had the idea that smaller cap stocks change direction first…anyway, doesn’t matter, will just keep placing the orders.
November 29, 2024 at 11:22 pm #116389BenOsbornParticipantFunny, my shorts had the worst month ever, I got creamed daily after the election. Only started to recover a little from this week but I expect I am still going to be down a decent amount when I run the numbers for the month.
Nice result on MR2000.
November 30, 2024 at 5:55 am #116390BenOsbornParticipantJust goes to show that what is in your mind is not always correct. Now that I have run the numbers, while the shorts did get hammered after the election they were what recovered over the last week to roughly halve my max drawdown throughout the month.

A disappointing way to finish they year with my MOCs getting hit pretty badly in the first half of the month. The second half was more ‘usual’, so hopefully things will return to normal for 2025.
I haven’t worked out how to format on the new site…maybe I’m being dumb?

I guess a solid year, but a bit underwhelming while watching all you trend followers kick goals. Still, the result exceeds my 20% benchmark, so I really can’t complain.
More than 2/3 of my profit for the year came from one day, the good old Yen Carry Unwind. The big lesson for me, more reinforcement of a belief I already had, is that I must place orders every day. I can’t imagine my state of mind if I’d missed that day because I was travelling or on holidays or felt I needed a break or something dumb like that. However, who knows what can happen, so my main goal for 2025 is to train up my daughter to be able to run my daily processes in case I get run over by a truck.
I have redesigned my position sizing over the last couple of months – I thought I had a cool way of over/(under) allocating on a daily basis across my systems but even the most basic of back testing made me realise that I was (probably) making ROR lower and MDD higher. Doing stuff without back testing first – dumb!
On a more positive note, I’ve added 2 new short MOC systems that go live from tomorrow, so fingers crossed!
I haven’t seen any end of year posts from you all yet, perhaps too much New Years Eve? However, I reckon that I’m going to see lots of great results for the year, so well done to you all.
Best wishes for 2025!
