Standard Operating Procedure – Installing a VPS

I starting using ChartVPS this week and so far so good. Nick mentioned this VPS service to me. I selected the standard and they gave me a free and permanent upgrade to their Intraday VPS. They also set me up with an uptime monitor that will email me if the VPS is offline.

I’ll update in another few weeks/month with how things are going.

‘Bang for buck’ ChartVPS looks very competitive vs Speedy. The hardware i.e. CPU/memory/hard disk space offering looks to be double etc of Speedy.

I’m using the LARGE VPS on speedy which is 2.25GIG memory and I’ve been seeing that with the TWS software and API’s running I’m close to maxing out the memory atm.

So I’d be keen to here about your experience with ChartVPS over the coming weeks etc.

I’ve been using ChartVPS for a number of months now and have had no issues. Basically same service but half the price.

I am in the process of moving to ChartVPS and installed TheChartist SmartAPI 2.0.0.5 and it will not update to version 2.0.0.17. Do I need a more recent version to complete the upgrade to 2.0.0.17? Not sure how to move the upgraded version from the old vps to the new one.

Mine was fine last night however I did have a problem in the past.  TradeStation would randomly crash and / or the VPS would freeze.  They advised me that it was a known issue and potentially caused by the screen resizing when logging in from different devices.  I continued to randomly have the problem even when only logging in from one device.  They ended up rebuilding it and upgrading it to Windows Server 2022 and I haven’t had a problem since (touch wood).

Has anyone found a need or benefit to continuing to run TWS and OrderClerk (OC) on a VPS after converting to RT and OC?

I may be slow seeing this as another benefit of switching to RT as canceling the VPS pays for RT by itself.

I use OC and cancelled my VPS about 3 months ago. I can set the orders before the open and close everything and leave it to run without having TWS or my computers open.

Yeah, I canceled the VPS several months ago too. I’m not running OC but BasketTrader does what I need
