August 29, 2017 at 10:41 am #103167ScottMcNabParticipantI was listening to the recording from last night (can’t believe I forgot!) and am hoping someone can please clarify for me the bit about asx moc systems not being worth it (was raised when Nick was speaking with Said)…I may be missing something crucial…the bit about even though commissions are factored into the backtest it still may not be worth it due to drag ?

I haven’t been monitoring the slippage but I am going to from now on to see what this is actually costing me compared to the backtest. But basically what Nick was saying was that if the brokerage and the profit end up being equal or worse for a system he would rather put his money elsewhere. At least that was my understanding.
I stopped my ASX MOC system for exactly that reason. Although the backtest accounts for brokerage, when the bad fills come into play as well you are running the system at about half what you expect. Might as well run it on a system with a better return.

Thanks Julian. The missed trades at the low of the day is a concern. Is the slippage with the MOC referring to those times when the open is below the buy limit order and the backtest is assuming a fill at the open (which is not happening) ? On the days when the open is above the buylimit then I can’t see how slippage would be an issue ?
Thanks again for the helpAugust 30, 2017 at 4:53 am #107487JulianCohenParticipantI was filled on BEN.au at 11.96 in the auction when the entry was 11.92. That has to count as slippage. I have only been tracking this week so I have to get a month’s worth of data to see how it goes over the next while. I’m sure some of the auction will give me positive slippage.
One question…Does an LIT order go in the auction?

A LIT order only becomes active once it trades at the specified price. If that is activated during the auction, then, and only then, will it become active…and is why you were filled at the higher level.

August 31, 2017 at 7:53 pm #103168ScottMcNabParticipantSuspended MOC system until get selection bias to where I like it…while the results with the changes in the last week are ok , it feels like I am sailing in a boat with my fingers plugging the holes…system has too many moving parts and feels overly complex
August 31, 2017 at 11:28 pm #107556ScottMcNabParticipantMissed AWC.asx on 29…buy limit was at the low of day (in Amibroker) at 2.07…time and sales indicated that this occurred at 9.59
September 1, 2017 at 11:39 am #103169ScottMcNabParticipantAug MOC combo: – 0.58%
September 29, 2017 at 11:05 pm #107579ScottMcNabParticipantMOC systems are no longer combined…separate accounts of equal size to reduce risk
