the VPS decided to restart
the good thing is that tonight is a calm night not many trades so it is easy to manage manuallyI have to solve this problem
April 6, 2017 at 1:11 am #106577TrentRothallParticipantmake sure their server auto update is on manual, i haven’t had a issue since they changed it
I contacted them via a support ticket and they did it
April 6, 2017 at 7:00 am #106578JulianCohenParticipantSince I switched to Speedy my server has been on full time with no problem.
April 17, 2017 at 10:27 am #106581SaidBitarMemberWeek starting with Trend filters down on US WTT so i have one exit and the same for US MRV so no entries for today
Beginning of the month i purchased the Forex data from Norgate (EOD) and started playing around with them.
It took around 1 week to put the correct settings in Amibroker to trade FX and some days to understand that position sizing in FX is important and not as simple as Stocks then testing started.Till now nothing successful but the more I test the more i like the simplicity of stocks. The thing is that i can see the trends but I cannot catch them
Most probably i have to start thinking a bit different maybe earlier entries and earlier exits will do the job. Anyhow it is ongoing process …
April 17, 2017 at 9:54 pm #106634Nick RadgeKeymasterThe only success I have ever had with FX (and granted I haven’t done much research for years) is trading the 5 main pairs with trend following.

After the group call I decided not to wait any more for starting the Momentum strategy so i applied for new account with IB and now waiting for it to be ready I hope it will be ready Monday before the open.
I will reduce the capital for the short term to start the Momentum strategy and later i will add some more funds for all of themMay 7, 2017 at 7:17 am #106737ScottMcNabParticipantHow is the Fx going Said ? A few podcasts I have heard recently have been pushing mean reversion strategies with pullbacks in a longer term uptrend…any luck with the MRV strategies you posted on stocks (lowest close in 5 days etc) ? I imagine the time selected for start/end of day could have quite an impact ?
May 7, 2017 at 5:39 pm #106781SaidBitarMemberHonestly recently i was not testing anything, but soon i will start testing again.
the thing with FX is that when you look at the graph you can see all when you write the strategy you got weird results. I have to test things again but this time I have to introduce Stop Loss and Profit targets but it will be a bit risky since testing intraday actions (SL/PT) with daily bars. I will update you if I find anything interesting.May 7, 2017 at 8:13 pm #106782ScottMcNabParticipantThanks Said. I am intrigued that you are exploring that area. The liquidity seems attractive but the potential for large moves following announcements from central banks appears equally frightening. Interestingly, again referring back to the podcasts, most of them seem to be scalping with a stop loss much larger than their profit target. If the trade goes against them they seem to open a hedge in the opposite direction to then wait for the trade to turn around.
May 25, 2017 at 7:17 pm #106784SaidBitarMembersome observations i noticed in this week
that almost everyday the S&P500 is going up quite decent percentages (0.3~0.7%) but my TF/Momentum are doing nothing either make small money or lose small money.
as if the market is having fake move i mean moving up but with no momentumBeginning of the year the S&P500 was moving the same but stocks were making new highs everyday
maybe it is just my portfolio but this is what i noticedMay 25, 2017 at 8:59 pm #106974Nick RadgeKeymasterIt’s a sector rotation, so stocks that had been driving the gains are now being offloaded and that money is moving into other stocks. Your portfolio will follow in due course.
May 27, 2017 at 4:58 pm #106975LEONARDZIRParticipantSaid, just read that the top 15 stocks in the sp500 account for more than 1/2 of the sp 500 gains this year. Big cap tech like amazon, apple, google, Microsoft are driving the us market so extremely narrow advance.
May 28, 2017 at 6:29 pm #106985SaidBitarMemberCame across this page today:
http://www.confessionsofatrader.com/i read all of it (OK it is tiny) full with sad stories but it made me think how good is to be mechanical trader. No emotions no feelings no doubting nothing stocks are only letters and P&L is only number.
Ok i admit that still positive P&L draws a smile on my face but nothing more.May 29, 2017 at 1:53 am #106999JulianCohenParticipantI couldn’t read it all. Too depressing!
