Not a bad year considering I moved about 40% of my total portfolio into the low volatility, lower growth All Weather. Across all accounts/strategies, the daily maxDD was -12.02% and I finished the year about -2% from all time equity highs.
Saying that, the All Weather smashed it out of the park with a combined return of about 34.4%. Daily maxDD was -5.12%.
My real concern is why the All Weather performed at a record level. Obviously holding Gold, equities and Bitcoin for the full year all paid off. The issue is they’re all moving together and, more worryingly, bond yields in the US are at their highest level since 2006. These are not sustainable and something will need to snap. I’m shit with fundamentals, but my geuss the bond and gold markets are pricing in a major spike in inflation due to Trump policies. If so, one would think that equities will struggle in the coming year.
Thanks all again for your support and posting results. I feel this was a ‘proving ground’ year for many of you, specifically sticking with the plan after a torrid 2022/2023. It’s one thing for me to keep telling everyone to ‘keep the faith’ but its something entirely different when you do it, experience it, and feel the validation for doing it.
I even have an old-school financial planner in my managed account program who has just retired. Even he, with his many decades of market and advice experience, was debating the merits of the strategy coming into 2024 (we’d had a 17% drawdown). I kept reinforcing the mantra, “A simple system applied over the long term…” and volia, a +50% return. At least he had the balls to thank me for sticking with the strategy.
Wishing everyone a solid 2025.
