Sept.
USmomo +3.35%
Nasdaq momo +5.5%
US MOC -1.0%
VTI +2.0%I have decided to show my VTI results(VANGUARD total market index) for several reasons. The majority of my US stocks funds in all my accounts is in VTI. . VTI is the benchmark to compare my trading systems. Finally I turned VTI from a passively held etf to a simple traded one to help avoid another GFC. I am in VTI when the monthly close is above a simple 10 month MA and out when below.
A nice moth for me.
October 2, 2017 at 11:32 pm #104549LEONARDZIRParticipantToday I had a very important trading lesson I wanted to share with the forum.
For 3 months my US MOC has been flat. I put my orders in every night and not much happened. I felt like I was just feeding a slot machine. Then Nick posted the article saying that mean reversion strategies as well as momentum strategies were not working because of volatility and some other factors. My first thought was to stop trading my MOC until volatility returned. After listening to the recent monthly mentor call and hearing Nick was going to continue to trade his MOC system I reluctantly decided to continue to trade my MOC system. I even forgot to put my my orders in Sunday night for Mondays trading. Literally right before the US market opened I placed my orders.
When I checked my returns after the US market closed I was up 2.5%!!
This stuff will play with your head. I am amazed how my brain tried to lure me away from following my system.
Thank you Nick for your advice to keep trading my system. There is no way to know when your system is going to be profitable.October 3, 2017 at 12:46 am #107770LeeDanelloParticipantGood on you Len
October 3, 2017 at 3:36 am #107771JulianCohenParticipantI had a great day too Len. Gotta love October….it’s often volatile
October 3, 2017 at 3:52 pm #107780LEONARDZIRParticipantJulian,
It wasn’t so much about how much I made on monday but how much profit I would have missed because I nearly turned off my trading system. I know you have been there as well.October 3, 2017 at 11:12 pm #107790JulianCohenParticipantLen Zir wrote:Julian,

November 1, 2017 at 10:14 pm #104551LEONARDZIRParticipantMy STT tonite said it couldn’t connect to yahoo finance so no prices could be downloaded. Anybody else have similar problem?
November 1, 2017 at 11:15 pm #107935Nick RadgeKeymasterNovember 1, 2017 at 11:35 pm #107936LEONARDZIRParticipantNick thanks for the info. I am not sure when using the workaround what to use as the start date Do you use a start date before you purchased all the securities?
November 1, 2017 at 11:40 pm #107938Nick RadgeKeymasterYes. If you have open positions of some length then you need to go back prior.
That said, it will not update the dashboard. It will only update the report.
The fix will be about a day or so away so continue to insert trades as normal.
December 1, 2017 at 1:34 am #104552LEONARDZIRParticipantNovember
US momo +4.48%
Nasdaq MOMO – 4,47%
US MOC +1.26%
VTI +3%Had a very profitable month in Nasdaq momo until the 29th but gave away profits plus on the 29th. Used tech selloff to add to the nasdaq momo system
December 1, 2017 at 2:33 am #108114LEONARDZIRParticipantNasdaq momo -4.47%
December 1, 2017 at 4:06 pm #108115LEONARDZIRParticipantI mentioned in another post that I was not tinkering with my systems because of my profits but I am tinkering with allocation. As I become more comfortable with my systems I am increasing allocation to my systems in place of VTI(which I am also trading as a system). We are in a historical bullmarket here in the US and I’d like to take as much advantage of the uptrend as long as it lasts.
