Agree here Len
January 15, 2021 at 1:54 am #112882JulianCohenParticipantI think that goes for any type of trading Len…With discretionary though you have the ability to stop the pain by exiting…only to feel renewed pain when the markets go back the next day and you aren’t in it
Either way, trading is a test of emotional fortitude more than anything else. I just find I’ve done it the discretionary way and I know for sure it doesn’t work for me…
As an old mate of mine said…”it’s all horses for courses” Everyone takes their own line and if it works for you then that’s the important thing.
The forum is a great place to rant though…gives you a chance to write out your fears and by doing that exorcise the demons

Have made a lot of money in the US markets since the March lows last year primarily because of long relative strength/momentum systems. Starting to get really nervous. Lots of speculation in low priced stocks. Nick’s hedge tool in TLT signals high risk. Now the market is starting to sell off at the end of the day.
I don’t really have a system that defines exits based on my intuition so will follow the rules of my systems. But nervously. Hopefully I will have the fortitude to follow my rules if we get a serious correction.anything
Often when I feel that way it is my subconscious telling me I have too much on the table. In this case it is due to a great year which isn’t a bad problem to have …taking a bit off may help you feel more relaxed and more likely to follow the system
January 15, 2021 at 6:23 pm #112883OmarAouaneParticipantLen, your feelings are completely natural and just showing you understand your environment.
Agree with Julian, it helps being there to share with evreybody, and witnessing our stuggle/doubts are not singular.
If despite all of this, your risk tolerance hurts you too much, reducing position size (by 1/3) can be an option as long as you dont cross the line by changing the philosophy/concept of your current process.
My personal worry is how I will behave when will come the time to apply the stops, freezing a DD of circa20%, when knowing that since the last 2 years you have central banks rescuing all stupid people in the market that do not apply proper risk management. ( like in Dec 2018 and March 2020)
As I said, we all have our demons
cheers!

Very helpful in navigating the markets.January 29, 2021 at 12:11 am #104611LEONARDZIRParticipantThe volatility of my Multisystem MR portfolio is absurd. A 28% swing in the last few days. Thankfully huge day up today. Did my usual mindwarp after yesterdays huge down day. Wondering if the systems were broken, tempted to close out all trades, the usual nonsense. Instead put the orders in and kept trucking with 12% up today.
Getting much better with the psychology of this whole thing.January 29, 2021 at 12:31 am #112928GlenPeakeParticipantWell Done Len!
A 28% swing… that’s a pretty wild ride..

January 30, 2021 at 4:25 am #112938ScottMcNabParticipantIntrigued how 28% swing came about Len…last few days Index went up and down 2-3% each way…are u trading still trading just stocks or also options on Multisystem ? Or was it just a couple of wild stocks (such as these so called meme stocks in the news) that induced the swing ?
January 30, 2021 at 9:04 am #112942JulianCohenParticipantI’ve had a few wild stocks Scott. Have a look at IRTC…that was a little land mine for me yesterday. I’ve had one of those little beauties three days in a row.
January 30, 2021 at 4:06 pm #112943LEONARDZIRParticipantScott,
My portfolio of 6 systems is way more volatile than the indices. Again all 6 systems are being traded in one account. The last few months have had at least 10 percent swings each month. The major driver in the volatility has been the short trades.February 28, 2021 at 11:43 pm #104613LEONARDZIRParticipantFeb 2021

More importantly my wife and I got our second dose of the MRNA vaccine against COVID. Hard to get appointments here in Massachusetts with a lousy website considering Massachusetts has Harvard and MIT and rivals Silicon valley in Tech expertise. However the vaccine was delivered without issue at a mass vaccination site.
