Hi all! I’ve finally reached that point of the journey where I’ve finished the training course material and working on my own system.
I have been lurking on the forum for a while (and have gained a lot of knowledge from it!) but thought it was time to get more involved, and start my own journal. I look forward to interacting with you all!
May 5, 2017 at 10:23 am #105997AnonymousInactiveI’ve been a bit slack in keeping this journal up to date – will try harder from now on!
I’m now just over a week down of live trading on my first system. I’m doing a MRV system on the Russell 2000, and so far (in the very short time it’s been up) it’s running as expected! With the real time results pretty much matching the backtests.
Credit to Nick and Craig to get me this far! I know it’s just the start of the journey, and there’s plenty of ups-and -downs to come, but it does fell good to see something working in real life, with real money as planned.
The only small question I do have if anyone can help… with the IB comissions (0.005/share or min $1), all the buy trades are the correct commission amount, but all the sell trades are more commission than expected. (Usually about 1.05 – 1.15 when less than 200 stocks – should be only $1) In fact I’ve never had any process at $1. Any ideas why, or am I missing something?
May 5, 2017 at 4:43 pm #106772SaidBitarMemberthe exit commissions are not as the entry commission
here is the breakdown
Commission MAX(1,0.005* number of shares) +
Transactions Fees 0.0000218 * Value of Aggregate Sales +
FINRA Trading Activity Fee 0.000119 * Quantity Soldso 150 shares BOT @ 1$ commission is max(0.005*150, 1) = 1$
150 shares SLD @ 1$ Commission is Max(0.005*150,1) + 0.0000218 * 150 + 0.000119 * 150(shares)= 1.021$

May 29, 2017 at 2:19 pm #105998AnonymousInactiveAnyone had the issue of a MARKET order not getting filled?
I’ve restarted TWS, tried several times to sell, but the order just sits there unfilled?
May 29, 2017 at 3:51 pm #107005SaidBitarMemberNormally market orders are filled unless you place it outside the trading hours then it will stay there
another thing if you are talking about the US market it is closed today
July 1, 2017 at 11:04 pm #105999AnonymousInactiveBeen on holiday for the last 6 weeks but manged to get the first 2 months running my first system live under my belt – dodgy internet connections and all!
US MR
May 2.88%
June 6.73%Thanks to all the help from Nick Craig and the forum, seems to running as expected!

August 1, 2017 at 12:32 am #107190AnonymousInactiveUS MR +0.80%
As with most mean reversion systems, pretty quiet this month…
September 1, 2017 at 7:14 am #107277AnonymousInactiveUS MR -5.7%
First down month. On one day (11/ was holding a full house of positions and TWS wouldn’t let me place any orders even after I’d sold those which needed to be sold on open. I did this manually on market open.
Of course that day was the best day of the month and missed quite a few winners bugger it! Back test showed month would have been -2.8% if I go these trades – never mind!
September 7, 2017 at 1:25 am #107565AnonymousInactiveNot sure if anyone else has had this issue – but happened to be up and watched open of US market and saw a Market sell order not being filled despite other sales.
Contacted IB and they said it wasn’t being filled due to internal IB “caps” on the price of the stock being in place and told me to cancel the order and place a limit order!
When I asked them to advise me what this was about, they eventually (after half an hour) told me there can sometimes be problems with Market orders placed outside market hours not being filled.
Anyway I eventually got if filled (at a better price but thats not the point!) but may be an issue for some.
September 7, 2017 at 6:58 am #107626SaidBitarMemberDidn’t happen to me yet
September 7, 2017 at 7:57 am #107628JulianCohenParticipantMe neither. I know it can be hard to get a straight answer out of IB sometimes but it would be interesting to know what they were talking about
September 7, 2017 at 9:12 am #107627DanielBaeumlerMemberit happened to me as well. I placed 3 Mkt orders, only 2 got filled. IB support chat said it was due to a technical problem / routing issue. It happened to orders which were created prior to market opening. IB is still working on the issue. At this point, it does not seem clear whether the issue is with the stock exchange or with IB. I will be informed via ticket when they sorted it out.
They advised not to place Mkt orders prior to market opening (which might be a challenge for you guys in Australia)September 7, 2017 at 9:55 am #107630AnonymousInactiveYeah that’s what they told me too about placing market orders! It’s only happened once so hopefully not a regular thing. Placing market orders to get the open price is what a lot of us rely on for the correlation with backtests!
