I think Scott referring to walk fwd testing, ie if you have a day of 15 trades losing 3-10% each what will the portfolio damage be.. Its a good exercise to do anyway, especially if you’re using a lot of leverage!

I was walking through day by day…did it for the years 2015 and 2008 to try and get a bit of an idea what I might wake up to (will be no caffeine required some mornings I can see  ). I think I will try 6-12 month with no leverage and see how I go. I feel like a green belt about to step into the Octagon (with the Mentor Course maybe constituting a bit of pepper spray slipped up the sleeve).

You will lend to a USD account and pay a financing fee. However, the interest earned on the AUD balance will outweigh the financing fee almost every month.
The major benefit of leaving your base currency as AUD is to negate ‘major’ currency exposure. You will still have small exposure but any realised P&L can be transferred back to AUD at any time, i.e. monthly.
Just not sure got my head around this sorry…my base currency AUD….when I open positions in SPX then I am essentially lending to USD and pay financing fee…then when the positions are closed I thought I read that the proceeds remain in USD? Is this correct Nick ? I am thinking that if I have one night in which 20/20 positions are filled then I’m all in USD ?
Thanks in advance
August 3, 2016 at 10:50 pm #104165Nick RadgeKeymasterOnly the realised/unrealised P&L stays in USD.
Call to clarify if you need to.
August 4, 2016 at 1:15 am #104974ScottMcNabParticipantIs the financing charge only if the position is held overnight ?
Thanks againAugust 4, 2016 at 12:02 pm #104978JulianCohenParticipantScott have a look here: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=1595
August 4, 2016 at 7:08 pm #104166ScottMcNabParticipantThanks Julian. Seems to be determined at end of day balance.
August 4, 2016 at 11:46 pm #104167JulianCohenParticipantEverything worked perfectly last night. Except I made a loss 😆
Next 10,000 trades!!
August 18, 2016 at 6:06 am #104168JulianCohenParticipantHere’s a trap for new players.
When running two or more systems on the same exchange always double check when closing one position that you are not closing a position from the other system at the same time.
Doh!!
August 18, 2016 at 7:06 am #104169Nick RadgeKeymasterInteresting.
I’ve been running two systems in the same stocks, but using two different API’s and two different accounts. I would have thought the API is watching which orders to close?

No this system closes on higher close so I have to set the order manually for an existing position. Problem was I had the same ticker in my rotation system and blindly clicked on close position in the portfolio tab
August 18, 2016 at 3:24 pm #105065SaidBitarMemberI made the same thing last month
September 15, 2016 at 11:16 pm #104170JulianCohenParticipantit’s been a while since I posted anything as I have been traveling and offline for a lot of the time, but I just landed back in Sydney and already have orders placed in the ASX this morning. I’ll be trading five systems over the next few months to give them all a good shakeout and make sure nothing untoward is occuring.
In the ASX I have a MR system, a momentum rotation system that has been running while I have been away, and a Trend Following system based on WTT. Also a MR MOC system in S&P and a MR system in the Russell.
