Just started the course earlier this month and thought I’d say hello to everyone.
I currently reside in London, moving here permanently from Sydney in March 2020 with my investment bank. I trade IG and HY corporate bonds and OTC credit derivatives – mostly illiquid products devoid of any systematic strategies (for now).
Going back a few years, I started trading as an absolute newcomer in 2015 while at University (Mechanical Engineering & Finance graduate) – made and lost a relatively small amount of money on penny stocks with no strategy other than looking at basic volatility contractions & MAs on the charts. After a few months I was hooked and quickly gave up the idea of becoming a mechanical engineer.
I read every book & podcast I could get my hands on, but the one I was absolutely enamoured with was The Way of the Turtle by Curtis Faith (and following on from that The Complete Turtle Trader by Covel; also loved the Market Wizards books) – a story about the Turtle experiment in the 1980s in Chicago which I am sure many of you are aware of. The book paved my interest into the systematic side of trading.
I’ve had Amibroker for some time now and have decent proficiency in MATLAB and Python, but have struggled to develop any robust strategies. It can get a bit disheartening working on these things with no guidance or anyone to bounce back ideas with. I decided to take on the course to take the next step in my trading journey and am 100% committed (I’m currently on Module 15 and loving the course). Seems to be a great community to be a part of with a wealth of knowledge and experience at the fingertips with Nick & Craig. I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with all of you
Cheers,
Ed
