Hi all,
Newly enrolled student here.
I’m Magnus, 30 years young and based in Brisbane, Australia.
Majority of my trading experience has come from the Cryptocurrency markets with mixed success. It’s been an interesting journey from when I started in 2013. I’ve only really experienced consistent gains in the past 18-24 months or so after adopting a Turtles inspired Trend Following system.
The main reason for enrolling into this course is to try expand my knowledge base and be able to diversify and trade the traditional financial markets. I believe what I learn here can help enhance and refine what I am currently executing in the Crytocurrency world.
Looking forward to learning from you all and contributing where I can!

Prior to this course I was just throwing BTC at everything that looked interesting. My most…. questionable… method to date was using a market maker bot to pick up exchange rebates for providing liquidity on Bitmex. It worked extraordinarily well in sideways markets, but not well enough in big trends. I have not revisited it yet, but I think that there is lots of profit potential there.
I’m hoping for a price increase shortly due to the halvening, but I try not to speculate too much.
I got into BTC via mining, and I am still doing that, although not with BTC. Looking to build another rig when winter comes around so I can warm my wife’s office without pissing the electricity away on a heater. It’s only about 100x more expensive up front to build than the $15 plug in heater…. eh, maybe I can just sock that money into my stock strategies instead.
I’d love to hear what your current BTC methods are if you don’t mind sharing. I’m currently executing trades via Tradingview alerts to Deribit with Alertatron, but I’ll be moving away from TV shortly and just to a self hosted Python program that does the math itself. If you want to jump on, I have a few spare API key slots that I have paid for that are unused.
Damn… Did I mention that I get long winded?
Cheers!
Seth

This was before learning any trading. Still feel I have a lot to learn and hence why I’m here!

I’m currently executing trades via Tradingview alerts to Deribit with AlertatronI utilize a very similar setup to what you just described. I use TradingView to generate an alert to send to 3Commas to which the platform will initiate a trade to BitMEX or Binance Futures.
I’ve found trading on the Daily being the most profitable. The pairs I trade which I’ve found most success with are BTC, ETH and Chainlink (LINK). Currently experimenting what the best time frames are with various other altcoins.
May 8, 2020 at 1:56 pm #111405AnonymousInactiveAh, Binance Futures! I’ve been waiting for Alertatron integration there. I’m excited to have some pairs that have a USD base instead of always trading the inverse.
I haven’t done anything with BTC daily, but every time I have added VWAP to a chart, it has helped with signals. I can send you some pine code for it if you want.
I’m only trading BTC and ETH perp and nearest future. Not enough volume on the others. XRP worked, but I recently moved all of my BitMEX to Deribit and haven’t looked back.
Good luck with the course. Best thing I have learned so far is to STOP trying to do so many things…. keep it simple.
July 8, 2020 at 11:21 pm #111409AnonymousInactiveHey Magnus, I have recently pulled down 1m data from binance futures for a few pairs and am going to start whipping up some damage in Amibroker. If you’d like to connect and spitball ideas then drop me a line at [email protected]. I have two friends who are real coders (not like me, I am just a fake coder), and they have made a script to execute trades via python and ccxt. They are working on a market maker rebate strategy as mentioned above and I am going to attempt to give it some extra “umph” with some actual trend and or mean reversion additions.
