It sounds like you are trying to open them in the Mac itself which won’t work.
June 26, 2016 at 9:11 am #104426AnonymousInactivesorry for the late reply Julian. I’m not the most savy computer person as far as I know the only program I’m running is windows parallel. how will I go about getting these other programs. instore or online

If you are inside the Window system and not in the Mac system then the templates should work inside Amibroker. Can you save them into your Amibroker folder and then use Amibroker to open them?
July 3, 2016 at 12:34 am #104465AnonymousInactiveI will certainly try that thanks Julian. However I’m unsure how I get them from the course literature to amibroker to save them. The moment I try to save any form of link from the course I get a page open saying open using this app. with multiple apps to choose from. Its frustrating as I may be missing some very important literature that’s needed to complete this course
July 3, 2016 at 11:50 am #104119ChrisViridesMemberCraig, its going to be really hard for anyone here not named Craig or Nick to give you help. This is mostly because seeing your screen is mostly needed in order to resolve your issues. Not sure how much mac experience Nick and Craig have either. I would suggest buying a Windows Laptop/PC or go the Apple store and ask them to give you a hand.
I would suggest buying a Windows PC as the most of the software setup instructions for this course are based on a windows environment. If you want Laptop recommendations people around here can help you but the best resource is the whirlpool forums.

As long as I don’t try and run anything like Photoshop and leave the MacBook Pro alone to run the MCS, I can get 1000 runs on the Russell 1000 from 2010-2016 on a 25% trade skipping done in an hour and a half. I’m quite happy with that.
I don’t think it’s worth my while to get a Windows machine just to run Monte Carlos faster, so I’ll keep going as is for the moment.
I just did a thousand runs on the Russell 1000 from Jan 2000 to June 2016 in just over 5 hrs using a Windows 64 bit machine with a SSD. Before I started the test I thought an hr and half might do it.

that does sound “crazy slow” Maurice for a 64-bit machine with an SSD drive. i also have a 64-bit windows box with an SSD drive that does a backtest over Russell 1000 from 01/01/2000 to 2016 in about 1.5 hours.
I copied this from premiumdata amibroker FAQ :
Quote:How can I increase the scanning/backtest speed of AmiBroker?Put your data on a SSD drive (or purchase a SSD drive to replace your main system drive). Your exploration will run approximately 8 times quicker.
Prevent your virus scanner from performing real-time scanning of both AmiBroker Database and the actual data storage locations (e.g. C:Program FilesAmiBrokerASX-PremiumData and C:Trading Data). Since there are no executable programs in these folders, scanning them is superfluous. Your exploration will run approximately 2 times quicker.
Click Tools > Preferences then click on the Data tab. If you increase the In-memory cache size to 20000 (max symbols) that should cover growth in this area for a while. 20000 is the maximum limit within AmiBroker. The Max MegaBytes can also be increased. Perhaps try increasing this to 1000MB (if you have at least 2GB of RAM) and increase further if you have more RAM. The 64 bit version of AmiBroker allows you to increase this to many Gigabytes – 4000MB is a good choice if you have the RAM to spare. There are just over 37000 symbols in the US listed+delisted database right now back to 1950, taking up around 1900MB of storage space, so if you have the RAM you may be able to bump up the values to accomodate these sizes. This will cause the second and subsequent backtest/scan to perform at lightning-quick pace.
For most trading systems/scans you do not need the full data history for any given security. This can be set in File -> Database Settings. For example, if your scans only require the last year of trading history, try changing the number of bars to 300. When you wish to perform backtesting, remember to increase this level.
Use the a 64 bit operating system and the 64 bit version of AmiBroker. Our own tests have shown the 64 bit version to increase performance by 30%. Note: This requires you to have purchased or upgraded to the AmiBroker Professional Edition.July 11, 2016 at 3:00 pm #104719LeeDanelloParticipantI thought something was up. I did another run the day after and it took about an hr and a half. I’m not sure what was up with the computer.
I should do another run. I just went into Amibroker and cranked up the following settings. You learn something new every day.July 11, 2016 at 10:17 pm #104690AnonymousInactiveThanks everyone for your help Its is appreciated all sorted now
July 16, 2016 at 6:04 am #104722AnonymousInactiveFirst glitch is that I am not able to see Prem Data in my system tray. I am using iMac and running VM Fusion software. I believe I have downloaded correctly Amibroker and Prem Data. So I should be able to see these programs in the system tray? Module 2/27 as below says
Step 2: Download and run the Premium Data Updated installer – the link is included in your confirmation email sent from Premium Data. There are no other files to install – the historical data will be downloaded automatically after you first run the program. Note: This historical data download may take a considerable amount of time, depending on the amount of data you are entitled to. After the installation is complete, the PDU program icon will show in your Windows System Tray, as illustrated below. For various Start-up options, see Settings > Program Start-up.

Step 3: Open PDU from the System Tray, click on the Related Databases tab and then AmiBroker. This screen will display the location(s) where AmiBroker is installed on your machine as well as confirm that the Data Plug-in has been installed as shown:

I must confess I am a first time user of windows 10 and VM fusion so not sure how to navigate this.
