“I’ve known about Norgate for years, as that Australian data provider specializing in providing integrating tools for AmiBroker. I’m not a big fan of AmiBroker, so I didn’t pay that much attention. It seems like an ok platform, but they lost my attention as soon as I realized that it’s based on some sort of proprietary scripting language. If you’re serious about quant modelling, you need to use a proper programming platform.”
Norgate Data for RightEdge ReviewClenow comes across as a bit blinkered. My way or the highway.
In other words if you don’t use Right Edge then you can’t be too serious about trading. Never heard about Right Edge. I thought the “serious quants” preferred Python. Does it really matter??
To tell you the truth he sounds like a right royal tosser. One of those guys that sprouts that 95% of all traders will lose money – wherever that came from.September 13, 2017 at 8:12 pm #107657SaidBitarMember
I think with time we get more attached to our toys, regardless of the name amibroker, rightedge, or whatever. You should listen to people that use matlab they even say more stuff end of the day maybe they are right but as you said it doesn’t matter. As long as you can test and achieve whatever you want then all are the same.Last year i played a bit with Rightedge not because i think it is better than Amibroker but just for one simple reason is that it has autotrading feature built in. but my opinion is that AB is a bit better for one reason it has three levels of complexity and it is up to the user how much complicated he wants to get. you can use the normal AFL the one that most of the systems are written with and achieve your target but sometimes there is some stuff that are user specific that are not achievable with the regular AFL and there you can use CBI even if you want to go even deeper to places where the CBI can not reach then you can write your own libraries and use them and there is a plugin for AB that is provided by them for C/C++ programming that will enable you to write whatever you want. so you can do whatever with it and it is up to you how much deep you want to dive while RE you need to write everything by yourself so it is one level and it requires lots of learning to get your head around it I admit after you manage to make your first system things will become easier but we are here to trade and test ideas not to spend days trying to understand why this code is not working

“I’m not a big fan of Amibroker, so I didn’t pay that much attention”.
I agree with your statement that it doesn’t matter what toys you play with as long as you can make some money. It’s really not about how elegant the programming is or what platform you use. Guys like this lose me very quickly because they focus on their view too intently. I suppose that’s why I believe the markets can be exploited. A lot of people have preconceived ideas and need to be right right about stuff that they believe in. Great, we need more people like them.September 13, 2017 at 8:58 pm #107660Nick RadgeKeymasterDon’t forget that Clenow is Swiss and that the Swiss style of communication is very direct and without much thought to the recipients feelings. It’s also very Russian.
As Said says, everyone has their favoured toys, but humility goes a long way in this game.

I agreed with him there as that program is slow as a wet week. Undoubtedly a smart guy but like you say lacking in humility and reason in this case.
