When the account hits new equity highs and retracts, one thing I’ve found helpful is to be grateful for the retraction.
As an example, one of the accounts dropped about 14% in the last few trading sessions.
Instead of seeing it as negative, I was grateful because the rise up stretched my mind to see the account at new equity highs.
Whilst the the account may not reach that equity high again for 6 weeks, 6 months or 6 years (who knows right?) I know that if I follow the process and stay in this game long enough that eventually the equity highs will return.
Societal programming tells us that making money is “good” and losing money is “bad”. As traders we need to see both events as neutral.
Being grateful for the losses helps. When you infatuate with the wins and resent the losses, it becomes very unsustainable to stay in the game.
How do you guys view losses, drawdowns and losing periods? What do you do to manage your mindset?
