Hi All,
So today I placed my first ever trade! My MOC Long system went live with 50% capital. It got 1 fill, $HIG which closed slightly up.
Nick, I could never have got to this point without you. You and the course have been literally life changing and I can never thank you enough. It’s on me now to make it count.
As I have no prior trading experience, I haven’t felt confident enough to post on this forum for fear of looking stupid, however I have been quietly watching from the sidelines (I hope that doesn’t sound creepy!….). You all won’t have realised but your collective insights and knowledge have been a massive help and reassurance throughout the course and I am greatly looking forward to being part of the conversations and research going forward.
My short term goals (6-8 weeks) are now to:
– Run the MOC long at 50% capital with 20 x 10% for a few weeks to let the adrenaline die down and ensure all is running / tracking correctly
– Increase capital to 100%
– Finish developing / testing and launch the short version using the same pool of capital at 20 x 10%Medium term goals (within 1 year):
– Develop and launch a diversifying strategy (probably rotational)Long term goals:
– Research, Develop and Launch strategies as often as available capital will allow, until I have a diverse set of systems (style, timeframe, markets).I apologise in advance for any stupid questions and look forward to joining in with this great community.
Wishing everyone a good weekend.

April 11, 2021 at 1:21 pm #113202RobertMontgomeryParticipantOliver, Great job on getting your first system live and thanks for sharing your thoughts and laying out your goals. I enjoyed seeing how your path is similar to mine. I too stayed in the shadows during my development of my first system also (MOC long), so that’s just what works for some of us. The course has really taught me the value of staying in tune with my emotions and doing what works for me to stay in the game long term (it’s slightly different for everyone). If something gives me pause, I try to be sensitive to it and do what is needed to resolve it so the emotion goes away and I keep trading without hesitation. It’s the all about the long game to play, typo’s will happen , just moving forward learning more everyday.
April 14, 2021 at 6:56 am #113204OliverBensonMemberHi Rob,
Thanks for your post.
In hindsight, my biggest challenge during the course has been over thinking and second guessing myself. I also found it hard to come up with original ideas so spent ages tinkering with the same things when I would have been a lot better off experimenting more freely. It’s almost like I’m scared of getting a poor backtest result (crazy right!) so once I had found an idea that kind of worked, I clung on to it and was too nervous to deviate and try other things. I also had in my mind I had to create this perfect system and this led to a whole lot of overfitting and self deception. I ultimately came full circle back to what is a very simple system with just a couple of entry criteria.
It’s a great feeling to be actually trading after all these months of introspection and self scrutiny. I am going to have to be disciplined about trusting the work I have done, leaving the system alone and letting it do it’s thing, whilst moving on to developing the next one.

Let us know how its going and dont hold back with questions – we’re all learning every day!
April 19, 2021 at 8:39 pm #113210OliverBensonMemberHi All,
I got a partial fill in $TXG on friday at $188.85 (my system buys with a stretch limit entry 0.3 ATR below the prior day’s low). Norgate data shows the low of the day at $189.03. I checked time and sales in IB as Nick showed me how to do, and found the trade. It had the initial ‘I’ which apparently means ‘Odd Lot Trade’.
Nick has explained to me previously that this kind of thing (getting filled outside of the official day’s trading range) happens from time to time but I just wanted to run it past you all to see if anyone else had the same happen, whether it happens regularly and whether in the long run these kind of things have much of an impact?
Any feedback would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

MOC Long 1 – 4.61%
Still can’t believe it! Actually buying and selling stocks… making PnL!… Amazing. And a nice bonus that month 1 is green (hopefully not just beginners luck).
