FYI:

When I logged into the API today I noticed a new version of the API is available for download.

I haven’t updated it yet…. I’ll update later in the week…..

Just wondering if anyone else has updated? All running OK?

I updated. I believe that this update was for a bug that only I am having. I’ve had it for a long time and it’s something to do with my Windows setup.

This release fixes that issue…I hope.

Saw this as well and figured there would be a thread about it. Julian, what was your bug?

Will update mine over the weekend – I try not to change anything production related during the week.

I run seven instances of the API for my different systems. Sporadically one of them would suddenly, during the night, internally change its Client ID number to one of the one’s that was already running, then shut down because you can’t have two instances with the same client ID running at the same time. That would leave me with open trades as the orders were still live.

I have been test trading a moc system in the US with one instance of an API while still using it for my ASX mean reversion on another. On two occasions I have had the API not close my US positions with moc orders. I am 95% certain that I set all the preferences correct on the API both times but what I think may have happened is, I set up the API for my US moc system first with one client id, then set up the API for my ASX system with another client ID. I am thinking that the API has taken the preferences from the second setup and changed the ‘close positions with moc orders’ setting.

Is this possible or am I just screwing something up? Has anyone else had this?

I think doing it the way you did it will screw things up.

You have to copy the API folder from the one that was set up on the initial instal. Copying over one that is set up for an existing system will copy over preferences that are stored in a different folder so you can’t change them.

Worst case scenario is reinstall the API from scratch, then copy over once for your ASX system and then copy over again for your US system.

I always keep a copy of the SMART API folder from the installation for this purpose.

Oh shit, i wasn’t aware of this. So you have 2 (or more) different folders for each API instance? I was just opening 2 of the same one and adjusting the preferences

Posting this here as to not keep going in Terry’s thread, but one thing you guys may want to do is use the TWS offline version that does NOT auto-update. My two cents.
