As a valued client of Telstra, I am constantly frustrated at Telstra’s service interruptions which plays havoc with my internet connection. One minute you’re using the internet and the next you can suddenly be offline for the next week while they unexpectedly decide to have an outage in your area. What I want to know is as traders how do we work around these outages. Is a VPN the answer or having plenty of mates so you can go to their place and do your trading from there the answer?
VPN is the answer. I connect to it for maybe ten minutes Maximum a day and the rest of the time it hums along nicely while I pick fluff out of my bellybutton.
VPS is the way to go
the second option is to have multiple data provider at the same time so if one goes down the other hopefully will be operating and maybe a UPS will be handy in case of power outage. This what i had before the VPS 3 data subscriptions (one fibre to home and two mobile data (USB Stick)) they are handy if one of the providers have problems then the computer will switch to the second but again this is not bullet proof since if there is any huge outage all will be down since all data providers take from one source.
Yes I think a UPS is the other critical component or if you have some extra cash a Tesla power wall. Power outages also seem to be the norm in Western Australia.
I have used my mobile as hotspot before Maurice but only to upload the csv onto the VPS…not to run API+TWS for the day…the combo of a VPS and the use of your mobile will probably be the easiest and “safest” fix and eliminate the need to chase wifi connections (assuming you can avoid the vps issues some people have experienced)
Where i live Maurice my internet is very sporadic too, although the new satellite NBN seems to be ok. But i just have a VPS and then you don’t need to worry about it, like Scott said if needed just use your mobile hotspot to set everything up which takes 15min and let the VPS run away.
