I had TWS drop out on me last night. Luckily without damage to my orders as the MOCs were already set and nothing else was triggered after it dropped out, so I’m installing the Gateway today.
Anyone have any experience with it? I assume I can open TWS on the same computer, or a different computer while it is running in the background? Is that correct?
September 27, 2016 at 10:37 pm #105339Nick RadgeKeymasterI haven’t used it yet but it’s a low latency platform which means it doesn’t use many resources and it doesn’t need to be rebooted like TWS every 24-hours. In other words it can remain running indefinitely.
You cannot have TWS and Gateway open at the same time.

here is another option julian for some more added confusion. IBController is 3rd party software that basically adds some extra contol of TWS or IB gateway. ive just started using it myself so i can semi-automate some things. here is the user guide. in particular you may want to read the section on using windows scheduled tasks here.

Maybe I’ll start with gateway and see how I go from there. Baby steps mate

Hi Julian,
Is there a reason that Gateway is less likely to drop out (other than not having to restart each day… ie compulsory drop out) ? Does the lower latency and reduced need for resources that Nick mentioned translate to increased stability too or is there some other reason ? I haven’t had it drop on VPS yet (or even on my own laptop come to think of it) and hadn’t thought of TWS instability as a possible risk.
Bugger…better add it to the listSeptember 28, 2016 at 11:44 am #105350JulianCohenParticipantWell TWS closed on me sometime last night and I have no idea why. At least gateway is supposed to be on 24/7 unless you switch it off…or until it drops out too

I have the server and TWS set to Seattle time now to avoid repeat (as suggestion of help desk at Hostwinds)
September 29, 2016 at 12:07 pm #105378JulianCohenParticipantI have TWS and the server set to Sydney time. If I have another issue then I’ll switch both to Seattle time.
Hostwinds told me today that there was a conflict in the hostname which they have fixed. I think TWS shut down because the server restarted, maybe due to this issue. I had it happen yesterday too and this time the server switched to US time. I had run gateway on my local machine last night so I was safe.
They say they have fixed it but I’ll stay on the local machine until Monday and see what happens.

Computer configuration > administrative templates > windows components > windows update > no auto-restart for scheduled automatic update installation
Over there you can prevent the auto restart
After changing it you need to restart for the changes to be effective -
