As with the Brexit discussion we had, I thought I might start one on the US election and how it would affect our trading plans, if at all.
This election will almost certainly affect those of us trading the US markets, which will be most of us. I’m interested to see how people are planning to approach their trading and position sizing going into the event. For me I will treat it as a normal day and place my positions as the system tells me. And then prey that Trump loses
November 3, 2016 at 8:33 am #105679TrentRothallParticipantSame with me, just place the orders. I learnt my lesson during Brexit. That said a trump win might not be pleasant when a big DD already.
November 3, 2016 at 8:49 am #105685AnonymousInactiveOne MRV system already “turned” off so unless that changes beforehand it will have zero impact.
MOC will carry on as usual, overnight risk will be eliminated. The results will probably become known outside of trading hours.
Either way I will follow my rules. Position sizing should keep losses at bay in the event of a move against me.November 3, 2016 at 8:54 am #105680AnonymousInactiveYep, as a systems trader, what else are you to do but run your system…
Bull market for bunkers, canned goods and ammo should Trump make the comeback!
November 3, 2016 at 9:25 am #105686TrentRothallParticipantIf he does get in it might play out like brexit. Initial panic then the realisation that nothing has immediately changed too much, and all settles down. Could be good for mean reversion

November 3, 2016 at 10:05 am #105681ScottMcNabParticipantIs possible impact on USD too if he did get in. Anyone read much on that ? I have only a small amount of USD.

November 3, 2016 at 11:10 pm #105691LeeDanelloParticipantI didn’t realise how much of an idiot Trump is until I started watching the US campaign and also how apothetic the public is to all his wrong doings. Not sure why Hillary Clinton is getting blamed for her husbands indiscretions and not leaving him. Why should that ever matter in this day and age? Maybe because she could see the bigger picture?
Someone should railroad Trump to Mexico.November 4, 2016 at 8:39 am #105692SaidBitarMemberJulian Cohen wrote:Said Bitar wrote:For me i will follow my system

Seems like Trump can molest women and get away with it because he’s a star. Let’s see how intelligent and knowlegeable the Americans are.

There’s quite a few Americans on this forum….some might even be supporters of Mr. Trump….might be an idea to keep our thoughts to trading

Lets not talk about Brexit then.
I now understand how the market can be so irrational and from that perspective it’s comforting to know that I’m on the other side.
So if you have a reasonable plan and can keep your head then you can make money.November 5, 2016 at 2:39 pm #105699LEONARDZIRParticipantJulian, well said. As an American it is hard to fathom Trump as president. However I have quite a number of extremely intelligent friends who are voting for Trump for many reasons. Some of them are a real and understandable dislike of the Clintons, a belief that our trade agreements are costing jobs and as a revolt against the changing demographics of the US to name a few. If you know our history we have had a number of vitriolic presidential elections with some pretty unsavory characters running for president.
I agree with you that it is best to keep the forum focused on trading. -
